National Museum of Scotland Retailing

Being Chairman of NMS Retailing, until 2002, allowed direct involvement in practical issues of retailing as well as being able to explore strategy issues in a small firm. The company now operates four stores: A general museum shop and three themed shops, one at the National War Museum in Edinburgh Castle, one at the Scottish Museum of Flight in East Lothian and one at the Museum of Country Life, Kittochside. International Review of Retail and Distribution Research

The academic journal IRRDCR (www.tandf.co.uk) was established in 1990 as a successor to International Journal of Retailing when this was merged with Retail and Distribution Management. Since launcing the Review in 1990 I have edited IRRDCR jointly with Professor Leigh Sparks.

The IRRDCR is a double blind refereed journal that publishes academic material across a range of topics related to retailing. The acceptance rate for submitted material varies by volume between 20 and 25%.

Institute of Grocery Distribution

After some years of joint development activity The School of Management validates the Post Graduate Certificate in Food and Grocery Industry Management that is offered by IGD. This is a programme for middle managers to improve their knowledge and skills in a major sector of the economy (www.igd.com).

The Future of Retailing seminar

An annual seminar is organised under the auspicies of Royal Society of Edinburgh and sponsored by Archibald Campbell & Harley. Seminars have been held in February each year with a theme related to the Future of Retailing in Scotland.
